This is an amazing book but....
I really enjoyed this book but since, for whatever reason, I couldn't load the file, I was unable to listen to this audiobook.
I loved finding Mildred D. Taylor's voice within the book itself. The story coming from the children's point of view is an interesting take because we all know what it was like to be a child and to wonder what was it like to be an adult.

Compelling window into the past
This book says some important things for children to know, but that are hard to say about the racism in our nation's past.
I didn't grow up during those times, but my parents and grandparents did. This book fills in the details of what it was like for blacks in the south in Mississippi. It is a powerful, wonderful story about a strong close knit family. We laughed with them, were saddened with them, were angered with them and sometimes felt flickers of the fears they faced. Ms. Thigpen's makes all the characters come alive with her narration. I highly recommend this book for ages 9 and up.
